The holidays is a tough time to lose weight for just about anyone. But if you are determined, you can lose weight during this time. It is said that the average person gains between five to twenty five pounds during the holiday season. Wouldn’t you rather come out of this season losing that amount than gaining it? Fortunately there are some success tips you can use to lose weight through the holidays.

Prepare for holiday parties. One of the biggest challenges of the holiday season are holiday parties. These are calorie-laden events filled with temptation. Anyone overindulges at a party, but the dieter especially has a real challenge at a party. Try having a snack ahead of time, ideally something with a little fiber and protein to fill you up. Drink a big glass of water so you are hydrated. Wear something pretty and festive so you are ready to enjoy the event and focus on celebrating.

Learn to make low calorie holiday favorites. No one says you have to stop celebrating the holidays. But learning to make lower calorie holiday favorites is a very smart way to help yourself lose weight. Many dieters discover that some of their favorite holiday foods simply have too many calories. A small serving is just too small to satisfy them. When they make something lower in calorie, they can have a healthy sized serving of it and often it is much better for them.

Be active every day. Now this seems tougher than it actually is. But everyone can be active during the holiday season. So you are saying that you don’t have time to go to the gym? Or you don’t have time to pop in a DVD and do an hour workout at home? Try doing mini workouts of 10 minutes at a time. Four or five of these a day will help get you in shape and keep you losing weight. This is a great routine to get into and keeps your metabolism boosted sky high.

Manage holiday stress for weight loss success. The holidays are a joyful time but they are also a very stressful time. Learn to manage your holiday stress so that your weight loss can be successful. Talk with a friend or write in a journal. Express your feelings in a positive way. Treat yourself to something each day, like a luxurious bubble bath or a nice mystery novel. Don’t let your stress get out of control and send you running for the donuts.

Weigh yourself regularly during the holidays. Even through the holidays, it is critical that you weigh yourself regularly. When we don’t hold ourselves accountable, we have the opportunity to overeat or eat the wrong things. This is when you can “somehow” gain five or ten pounds “overnight.” Weighing yourself every Monday morning is a much better habit. You’ll catch weight gain as it creeps up a couple of pounds and get it under control before it gets even worse.
