How to lose weight fast the old fashioned way

By Alan Turnberry

Look, I’m not going to sugar coat this for you. If you’re overweight like me and you know it, raise your hand. OK, I’m the only one raising my hand. So either you found this blog by accident or I’m really the only one trying to learn how to lose weight fast here.

I have a sneaking feeling I’m not the only one with this “weight” problem so we’ll consider it like this. You have this “friend” who wants to lose some weight and is wondering what’s the best way. Am I right? Thought so. So without further BS let’s get started friend.

There are have been many articles outlining weight loss, tips, tricks, fads, diets and probably even some voodoo stuff floating around this blog but the fact of the matter is this; good old fashion weight loss is done with hard working exercise and watching what you eat. Plain and simple.

Of course no one wants to hear that especially me. Instead we want to focus on what’s the easiest route to fix the problem we got ourselves into. Heck I did it so I’m speaking from experience in the area of lackluster weight loss performance. It was a fast ride to this porky point but I’m learning it’s a seriously longer ride back to skinnyville. Pills, fads, and get slim quick diets really don’t do a whole lot for most people. For some, they work great but for most of us they do not. As someone who has lost 50 lbs, I can tell you one simple truth, unless you eat right and exercise, nothing else will change.

How much do I exercise?

I make an effort to walk at least 10 miles a week, sometimes more. I walk 3-4 miles a day and watch my calorie intake as best as possible. I find walking relaxing and a very good way to get rid of my daily stress. To start out, I suggest you start at a pace that is not too difficult but allows you to go everyday without excuse and especially without pain. The slower you start, the better off you’ll be. At WeighWatchers they’ll tell you that you do not need to exercise at first to lose weight, and I know that works, however, I would suggest the earlier you get started walking the better off you’ll be in the long run.

Ok, but what kinds of things do I eat?

Really, I eat whatever I want. The God’s honest truth. The only difference is that now I track everything I eat, and I stay within my calorie range for the day and even some days I go over. I finally understand it’s all about portion control. I also do what’s called calorie cycling and I’ll cover that at a later date because there is a lot to explain. Basically calorie cycling means I eat more some days and less others but at the end of the week my average is below my total caloric need. For now, learn to track your calories, try to understand what your caloric resting metabolism rate is and stay within that range.

To wrap up, do exercise regularly, watch what you eat but don’t fret over it too much. Try to walk everyday, start slow and be patient. Learning how to lose weight fast the old fashioned way is really about getting back to the fundamentials. Find out what your resting metabolic rate is and learn your portion control.
