Making a life style change

by Alan Turnberry

Frankly, weight loss, losing weight, dieting, lifestyle change or whatever you choose to call, it simply put sucks. The world has put so many good foods out there now it’s difficult to understand the calories and the actual portions. Right now in my mind Weight Watchers has to be one of the best life style changes. You eat what you want when you want as long as you stay within you point range.

If you find yourself struggling to determine calories, counting points is a much easier process. Some people will find they only have 22 points, which after the first week of staying at 22 points you’ll find very quickly that you’re a lot hungry that you realized. That’s because you’ve been over eating. In our society today it is so easy to overeat, most times you do not even  know you are doing it.

The trick to overeating and weight loss is to remember that you are a tank, and you should only put so much into the tank or it will spill over. Our stomachs are muscles, that means they can be stretched.  Unlike a steal tank that can only hold so much and your stomach will eventually stretch with prolonged overeating. At some point you’ll not feel as hungry as you might have 20 lbs earlier. If this is done correctly, it will be easier for you to transition through the change and it will not be so dramatic to your system. Hungry pains will be there, that is a fact of life.

The difference between a diet and a life style change, is the state of mind. Consider diets short term and a life style change a way of living for the rest of your life. Most notable life style changes occur with dramatic news. You find out your diabetic, or even worse you find out you have cancer that could have been prevented if you had changed you life style years ago. Focus on the positive and considering the following, everyday you do not take action to make a life style change, is one day closer to missed opportunities. If you’re in pain, you’re missing the opportunity to take long walks in the park. If you are pre-diabetic, your missing the opportunity to skip four (4) hour daily dialysis and live longer.

Yes these things sound dramatic, they sound negative and they should. If these are hard to hear, it is guaranteed that the news you have cancer due to your overweight condition will be considerably more dramatic and traumatizing that reading an article full of gloom and doom somewhat prophetic rhetoric about your health and life style condition. Take your chance now to make a conscious life style change and forgo the bad news.
